Bird of Prey

The very first time I saw a Red-shouldered Hawk ( Bufeo Lineatus) I was very impressed by the size and stunning beauty. I remember that he landed right on top of a vole (Field rodent) and grabbed it with his great talons, then killed it and swallowed it whole! Powerful bird, great flyer with acute eyesight.

This species of hawks are well known all across USA, at certain times these birds fly in large flocks. Many name the red-shouldered Hawk as the most skilled flyers.

The Swan

This photograph inspires even more beauty, I'm quoting a poem:

The Swan
The labouring through what is still undone,
as though, legs bound, we hobbled along the way,
is like the awkward walking of the swan.

And dying – to let go, no longer feel
the solid ground we stand on every day
is like his anxious letting himself fall
into the water, which receives him gently
and which, as though with reverence and joy,
draws back past him in streams on either side;
while, infinitely silent and aware,
in his full majesty and ever more
indifferent, he condescends to glide.

Eastern Bluebirds are pretty but...

There's no doubt about how pretty the Eastern Bluebirds are with their bright colors and elegant poise, however they have a bad habit of raiding other birds nests and eating their eggs. I have been witness of this fact.

When ever they show their face around bird houses or nests, other birds start the chase to kick them away! I have noticed that if there are any Northern Mockingbirds around, these will give them a fight for their lives.

When it comes to plumage and appearance, Eastern Bluebirds are among the most popular birds in our Country.

Canada Goose

  •  Canada Goose Spec. name: Branta Canadensis

    Size & Shape

Canada Geese are big waterbirds with a long neck, large body, large webbed feet, and wide, flat bill.
  • Color Pattern

Canada Geese have a black head with white cheeks and chinstrap, black neck, tan breast, and brown back.
  • Behavior

Canada Geese feed by dabbling in the water or grazing in fields and large lawns. They are often seen in flight moving in pairs or flocks; flocks often assume a V formation.
  • Habitat

Just about anywhere near lakes, rivers, ponds, or other small or large bodies of water, and in yards, park lawns, and farm fields.

Circle of Friends

This group of Canada Geese sitting on a frozen lake called my attention because they are forming an almost perfect circle. I think that I named the shot very appropriately "Circle of Friends"

These large birds are migratory and fly very large distances when the move south. I will write an article very soon about this specie so you can be more familiar with it.

This shot was taken with a film camera... remember film? :)

Popular Bird, Northern Cardinal

Northern Cardinals, sp. name “ Cardinalis Cardinalis”
Description:
Medium size songbird, male species have bright red body and wings with bits of black on the wing edges, conical shape beak, masked face in black.
Females: Back and wings is pale green with tinges of red, chest and belly a pale orange, red crown. Males and females have the distinctive rising crown and black masked face.
They are our most assiduous visitors of our feeders, there’re times when I count more than twelve
feeding or waiting their turn to eat.
The cardinals are one of my favorite birds! :)
Very popular bird, well known and easy to identify by almost every one. I could bet money that at one point or another most persons have seen a Cardinal, male or female.
